On the evening of Sunday, August 25, 2013, in one of the halls of the House of Culture in Sana’a, the Sawt Foundation for Development, in cooperation with the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation, organized a cultural and literary seminar along with a photography exhibition highlighting the role of women in Yemen’s process of change. The exhibition and its accompanying events were initially planned to last for three days, aiming to shed light on women’s active contributions to change in Yemen. However, due to the strong interest shown by the then Minister of Culture, Mr. Abdullah Oubal, the exhibition was extended and continued for nearly a month.
The exhibition was inaugurated by a group of mothers of martyrs and wounded participants of the peaceful Youth Revolution. During the opening, these mothers, along with Samah al-Shaghadri, President of the Sawt Foundation for Development, and Ms. Ariella Gross, the resident representative of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, toured the exhibition. It featured around 42 photographs taken by photographers of the Youth Revolution.
The goal of the exhibition was to promote cultural engagement in the lives of Yemeni men and women, with a focus on youth and women, to advocate for their meaningful participation in political and social life.
